Rainfall warning: March 22 to 24

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the North Shore including West Vancouver, beginning tonight, Saturday, March 22, and continuing through the weekend into Monday, March 24.

The forecast calls for rainfall amount between 70 and 120 mm, with the heaviest rainfall expected during the day on Sunday and Sunday night, before tapering off Monday afternoon.

During periods of heavy rainfall:

  • Please take a few minutes to clear leaves from catch basins near your property so rainwater can drain from the streets.
  • Slow down and drive carefully. 
  • Stay clear of rivers due to quickly flowing water, ice, and potentially unstable riverbanks.
  • Have an emergency plan and kit to help you and your family be prepared for a power outage.
  • Wear winter-appropriate clothing and footwear when heading outside.

Power outages and trees on power lines

If you lose power, check the BC Hydro website for a list of reported power outages. To report an outage, contact BC Hydro at 1-888-769-3766. If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres (about the length of a bus) and call 9-1-1.
