North Shore Emergency Management is a tri-municipal agency that works in partnership with the three North Shore municipalities to plan, coordinate and test emergency and disaster response.
The emergency management office supports municipal and regional North Shore response capabilities by coordinating effective and efficient preparedness, planning, response and recovery activities, and by bringing together resources from the three municipalities, response agencies, public safety lifeline volunteers and other organizations on the North Shore.
Sign up for Alertable
North Shore Emergency Management uses Alertable to send out alerts for emergencies such as severe weather, natural disasters, industrial hazards, and transportation/marine spills. Sign up and learn more.
Alertable is free, and used by government organizations across Canada for public emergency alerts, ranging from local emergencies, to road incidents, to weather warnings. You’ll also receive an alert if you need to evacuate, shelter-in-place, or if there is an Amber Alert. Notifications are fast, reliable, and easy to see and hear.
Once signed up, you will receive notifications on your cellphone by text (SMS), home phone, or email. You may customize your settings, choosing your preferences for critical alerts and advisory alerts. To receive alerts for the North Shore, select the 3 different North Shore municipalities when signing up:
- West Vancouver
- District of North Vancouver
- City of North Vancouver
Alertable differs from the provincial system, Alert Ready, which is reserved for large-scale emergencies and does not require downloading an app. In British Columbia, Alert Ready will only be used in the event of a potential tsunami, Amber Alert, or civil emergency.
Disaster Supply Container
An emergency container has been placed near the West Vancouver Community Centre, outside the Ice Arena, to help prepare the community in the event of a major earthquake or other disaster. The container, which looks like a storage pod, is the sixth Disaster Supply Cache to be added to locations throughout the North Shore and contains items to aid responders such as radios, personal protective equipment, generators, and evacuee support supplies.
