Drop-off Depots

British Columbia is a leader in creating product stewardship programs, which means that many items once considered garbage can now be recycled, reused or disposed of properly at designated drop-off depots. 

Drop-off depot materials:

  • antifreeze

  • batteries

  • books

  • cooking oil

  • electronics

  • large quantities of mixed paper, cardboard, and containers

  • light bulbs and fixtures

  • medications

  • motor oil, filters, and bottles

  • paint

  • pesticides and flammable liquids

  • plastic bags and overwrap

  • plastic foam packaging

  • refundable drink containers

  • some types of small scrap metal (such as coat hangers)

  • small appliances and power tools

  • tires

  • usable clothing and textiles, which are collected for donation to charities
