Be prepared for more rain on the North Shore this weekend.
The current forecast predicts rainfall of approximately 25 mm on Saturday, October 26 and 34 mm on Sunday, October 27. The upcoming rain is not expected to be of the same magnitude as the recent atmospheric river event, however, wind gusts of up to 60–80 km are expected. High winds can blow down trees and branches, causing power outages, road closures, and traffic disruptions.
The District will follow operational procedures already in place for flood control. Overnight crews are planned for Friday overnight from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and conditions will be assessed further on Saturday. Learn more about the District's storm preparations here.
During periods of heavy rainfall:
- Please take a few minutes to clear leaves from catch basins near your property so that rainwater can drain from streets.
- Slow down and drive carefully. Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads.
- Stay clear of rivers due to quickly flowing water and potentially unstable riverbanks.
- Have an emergency plan and kit to help you and your family be prepared for a power outage.
