Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for today, with 40–50 mm of rain expected across the Lower Mainland.
How to prepare for heavy rain
- remove leaves, debris, and ice from storm drains around your property to avoid flooding
- ensure stormwater from your property is directed into storm drains and culverts, not the sanitary sewer system
- consult a qualified professional for potential flood mitigation measures
- sign up for Alertable notifications to receive severe weather alerts

Power outages and trees on power lines
If you lose power, check the BC Hydro website for a list of reported power outages. To report an outage, contact BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376. If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres (about the length of a bus) and call 9-1-1.
Every home should have an emergency kit with non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, and other supplies to help you and your family get through the first 72 hours of a power outage. Learn how to build an emergency kit.
