The District has received a development application for 1552 Esquimalt Avenue. The site is currently developed with a 20-storey rental apartment building. The proposed development is to construct an infill residential building on the site while retaining the existing rental building. The proposed infill building is 19 storeys and 126 units (strata titled). The existing parkade is to be reconstructed in phases to allow for onsite parking during construction and add additional parking spaces and bicycle storage.
The proposal was considered by the Planning Committee at its meeting on March 11, 2026. The Committee recommended support of the proposal—please note that the Committee is not a decision-making body. The applicant hosted a public information meeting on its proposal on April 16, 2026.
On June 8, 2026, Council gave first readings to the proposed amending bylaws and set the date for a public hearing on June 29, 2026 at 6 p.m.
