West Vancouver residents will soon have another opportunity to get a ready-to-plant tree or a potted tree for balconies through the Yard Tree Planting Program. Your yard and balcony play a vital role in the community’s tree canopy.
Last year’s program distributed 200 trees to increase tree coverage on private land, supporting local biodiversity, improving air quality, and helping mitigate the effects of climate change.
This year, another 200 beautiful deciduous trees are available to eligible private property owners on a first-come, first-served basis, with the possibility of additional trees being made available if demand exceeds supply.
Online orders for the trees will open on Wednesday, April 22, in celebration of Earth Day. Residents can order online while supplies last.
Residents can pick up their tree at the Yard Tree Planting Event at the West Vancouver Memorial Library on Saturday, September 26. This date was selected to coincide with the optimal planting season, ensuring the best chances for the trees to thrive.
The program is aligned with the goals outlined in the District’s Urban Forest Management Plan, specifically the objective to promote the voluntary planting of approximately 320 private trees per year.
Residents interested in participating in the program are encouraged to mark their calendars for April 22 and secure their tree while supplies last.
