West Vancouver launches Yard Tree Planting Program to enhance urban forest

yard tree planting program

West Vancouver residents will soon have the opportunity to add a new tree to their yard through the Yard Tree Planting Program, an initiative aimed at expanding the District’s urban forest.

The program offers 200 deciduous trees to eligible private property owners on a first-come, first-served basis, with the possibility of additional trees being made available if demand exceeds supply.

Online orders for the trees will open on April 22, 2025, in celebration of Earth Day. Residents can apply online while supplies last.

Residents can pick up their tree at the Yard Tree Planting Event at the West Vancouver Memorial Library on September 27, 2025. This date was selected to coincide with the optimal planting season, ensuring the best chances for the trees to thrive.

The program is aligned with the goals outlined in the District’s Urban Forest Management Plan, specifically the objective to promote the voluntary planting of approximately 320 private trees per year.

By increasing tree coverage on private land, the initiative supports local biodiversity, improves air quality, and helps mitigate the effects of climate change.

Residents interested in participating in the program are encouraged to mark their calendars for April 22, 2025,  and secure their tree while supplies last.
