West Vancouver celebrates opening of East Cypress Climb Trail

Cypress East Climb Trail opening - Sep 2025 - News post

On Wednesday, September 10, the District of West Vancouver, together with British Properties (BP) and the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA), marked the official opening of the East Cypress Climb Trail. The new recreational trail is now open for two-way hiking and uphill mountain biking, making this the first designated uphill biking route in West Vancouver.

The event began with a Territorial Welcome from Squamish Nation member Calvin Charlie-Dawson recognizing the cultural and environmental significance of the land.

This new trail represents the fulfillment of a long-term commitment by the District to bring sanctioned mountain bike trails to the community. Through a partnership agreement with BP and with the support of NSMBA, the East Cypress Climb Trail extends the positive impact of sustainable trail development on the North Shore, enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. As part of this collaboration, BP is allowing use of their land for a portion of the trail and has also generously contributed funding toward construction of the project.

Developed in consultation with community stakeholders, the new climb trail is partly a reconstruction of the historic Old Forks Trail—a route once used by hikers and skiers to access the Hollyburn area. Revitalized and formalized, the trail now provides safe, enjoyable access for all recreational users.

In addition to the East Cypress Climb Trail, three existing mountain biking trails—Meat Sweats, Jersey Shore, and Morgies—were formalized in partnership with NSMBA and continue to benefit from ongoing maintenance and care.

The District extends its appreciation to British Properties, NSMBA, and all those who contributed to the completion of this project, which reflects the community’s shared commitment to responsible recreation and access to the natural environment.
