This spring, Recycle BC will be launching curbside collection of flexible plastics in the District of West Vancouver.
Flexible plastics are lightweight, soft, and can be easily crumpled or folded (e.g. plastic bags and wrappers). Until now, flexible plastics needed to be taken to a drop-off depot for recycling.
Starting in May, Recycle BC will deliver pink boxes and collection schedules to residents. In June, residents will be able to set out flexible plastics (pink boxes) with other curbside recycling material, including paper (yellow bags), containers (blue boxes), and glass (grey boxes). Please continue to sort and recycle your waste.
Curbside flexible plastics collection will be added once per month to the regular collection schedule. Recycle BC will mail updated recycling collection guides in June. You can search your collection schedule anytime using your address on the Recycle BC Website or WestVanCollect app.
The expanded curbside flexible plastic collection program aligns with the District’s waste reduction objectives and provides a more convenient way for residents to recycle more at home. The Recycle BC curbside collection program is funded by the businesses that supply packaging and paper to BC residents, shifting recycling costs away from ratepayers.
Recycle BC has been responsible for recycling in West Vancouver since July 2020. Recycle BC’s collection contractor is Waste Control Services (WCS).
