Pilot tranquility garden coming to Seawalk Garden Park

Seawalk garden

At their regular Council meeting on Monday, June 9, Mayor Sager announced a new pilot project that will create a dedicated tranquility garden in Seawalk Garden Park, from June 13 to December 31, 2025. Seawalk Garden is located off the Centennial Seawalk at the base of 19th Street.

This carefully curated garden was revitalized and redesigned last summer to promote relaxation, reflection, and a deeper connection to nature. As part of the work last year, Parks staff removed approximately 50% of its grassed areas and introduced drought-tolerant plantings—changes that support both aesthetic appeal and the ability to thrive during longer, drier summers.

A tranquility garden is designed to create a peaceful retreat for visitors, away from the noise and pace of daily life. These gardens support mental and physical well-being by offering an inclusive environment for quiet contemplation and reflection in a serene and natural environment.

To help preserve the calm and restorative nature of the space, barbecues, amplified sound, and group gatherings will not be permitted.

The District will evaluate this pilot based on public feedback and usage patterns. We invite you to visit, enjoy the calm, and let us know your thoughts as we explore new ways to enhance community wellness through thoughtful green space design.
