To support public safety and mitigate fire risk, the District of West Vancouver is updating regulations for barbecues in all local parks. Effective as of Friday, June 20, 2025, charcoal and briquette barbecues are prohibited in all West Vancouver parks, year-round. This change aligns fire safety rules across the North Shore and is consistent with fire regulations in many parks across the region.
All open fires and smoking remain prohibited in District parks year-round.
At the same time, propane barbecues will now be permitted in all parks, year-round, except in Lighthouse Park, where all barbecues remain prohibited. This shift eliminates the need for changing signage throughout the warmer, drier months and provides simpler, safer guidelines for everyone to follow.
These updates reflect the District’s commitment to reducing wildfire risk and protecting our parks and community, especially as we continue to experience hotter, drier conditions.
