I am writing to you with a deep sense of empathy and gratitude as we reflect on the unprecedented atmospheric river and subsequent flooding that has impacted our community. The intensity of this weather event left a profound mark on many homes, businesses, and daily lives across West Vancouver and I want to acknowledge the disruptions and challenges many of you have faced as a result. To all those whose properties were damaged, whose livelihoods were affected, and whose daily routines were turned upside down, I extend my heartfelt sympathy.
The District of West Vancouver recognizes the emotional and financial toll this has taken on many, and I want to express our unwavering commitment to supporting this community as we continue our recovery efforts. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible patience, understanding, and resilience that you, as residents, have shown. It has been truly inspiring to see the spirit of cooperation and community support that has emerged during this challenging time. Neighbours helping neighbours, local businesses stepping up to offer assistance, and citizens coming together to care for each other has been a testament to the strength and unity of West Vancouver. It is in moments like these that the spirit of our community shines brightest.
Our District staff, alongside the dedicated team from North Shore Emergency Management, have been working tirelessly to respond to this crisis. From preparations made in anticipation of this event and real-time flood response, to cleanup operations and ensuring that essential services are maintained, staff efforts have been focused and prioritized. These teams have been on the ground around the clock, and I want to extend my deepest appreciation for their hard work and dedication. They have truly embodied the values of public service during this time of need. As we continue the work of rebuilding and restoring, I assure you that the District is fully committed to addressing both immediate needs and long-term recovery. We will continue to prioritize public safety, cleanup, and infrastructure damage assessment and repairs.
Sincerely,
Scott Findlay
