Don’t forget Fido this holiday season! Renewing your dog’s licence is the perfect gift to help it return home safely if it ever gets lost.
The deadline to renew your dog’s licence is January 31. All dogs older than six months need a licence and must wear a tag.
Top three reasons to licence your dog:
- A free ride home—licence fees help us bring your dog back quickly if it ever gets lost. Any licensed dog found by a bylaw officer will be taken to their owner’s front door, often within 24 hours.
- Help for pets in need—licence fees help to fund emergency medical care for lost and injured pets.
- Peaceful coexistence—licence fees provide education programs about responsible pet ownership.
Permanent dog tags
Starting in 2024, we will be issuing permanent dog tags. Permanent tags will still require annual renewal but they have benefits:
- Your dog tag number will remain the same, so our database will always be up-to-date with current information available if your dog is lost.
- These stainless steel tags have a life span of up to 10 years, so they create less waste than replacing tags every year.
