BC Hydro conducting work at the John Lawson Substation starting February 6

John Lawson substation repairs

BC Hydro will be conducting repair work on the John Lawson substation from Monday, February 6 to the end of March 2023. This emergent work is needed to repair a transformer within the substation and ensure the station continues to operate safely.

No scheduled power outages are required for this work.

What are the impacts?

  • construction hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, with some days requiring work until 6:30 p.m.
  • site activities will include construction noise
  • the west parking lot at John Lawson Park will be closed for public parking for the duration of the project, with some exceptions for site mobilization. Drivers wishing to park may enter the west parking lot and proceed to the east parking lot via a single lane
  • both the east and west parking lots will be closed on Monday, February 6, until approximately 9 a.m. for site mobilization
  • both the east and west parking lots will be closed on Thursday, February 9, between 9 and 11 p.m. for site mobilization

In order to expedite the project, some work will take place outside of regular construction hours. Please be aware that District bylaws concerning permitted hours of construction do not apply to emergency repairs to public utilities and services
