The District of West Vancouver is continuing to monitor parking use in Ambleside Park and the adjacent commercial area following the implementation of pay parking. We understand that some businesses, residents, and park users have raised concerns about parking availability and possible impacts in the area. To support informed public discussion, the District has provided a high-level summary of parking usage data as collected by a third-party contractor at westvancouver.ca/payparking.
To date, parking use in the adjacent commercial area is similar to levels observed before pay parking was introduced and Ambleside Park parking remains consistent with historical, seasonal use.
These findings suggest that parking demand in the commercial area remains high, particularly on Bellevue Avenue but current data does not show a significant change from conditions before the program was introduced.
The District is continuing to gather input from key stakeholder groups on pay parking in Ambleside Park. Staff have met with the Ambleside and Dundarave Business Improvement Association (ADBIA) on several occasions before and after the implementation of pay parking and recently held a stakeholder roundtable with sports field user groups, event organizers, and the ADBIA. The roundtable was facilitated by an independent third-party engagement facilitator, and a summary of feedback was presented publicly as part of the Council report considered at the April 27, 2026, regular Council meeting. View report here.
As directed by Council at their regular meeting on Monday, April 27, staff will:
- maintain the reduced parking rate of $2.50/hr in Ambleside Park;
- continue to monitor and collect data and report back in fall 2026; and
- continue discussions with stakeholder groups to receive feedback on options for future refinement to the pay parking program in Ambleside Park.
