Benefits of Licensing your dog

Being a responsible pet owner has its perks – not just for your dog, but for other dogs in West Vancouver too!

  1. You’re more likely to get your dog back if it goes missing. Did you know that 97% of lost, licensed dogs are returned to their owners?
  2. If we pick up your missing dog, it gets a free ride home once per calendar year.
  3. Lost and injured animals get cared for and pets get adopted with funding from your dog licence fee.
  4. Dog facilities and services like off-leash dog parks are assessed using dog licensing statistics.
  5. We respond to hurt or stray animals in emergencies, educate the public, and enforce pet rules with funding from your dog licence fee.

Keep your account information up to date

Email us or call us at 604-925-7152 if:

  • you have moved during the last year
  • your dog is no longer with you
  • your dog has been spayed or neutered during the last year (a copy of the certificate by a qualified veterinarian must be supplied)

Permanent dog tags

Starting in 2024, we will be issuing permanent dog tags. Permanent tags will still require annual renewal but they have benefits:

  • Your dog tag number will remain the same, so our database will always be up-to-date with current information available if your dog is lost.
  • These stainless steel tags have a life span of up to 10 years, so they create less waste than replacing tags every year.

2025 fees

  • for dogs who are not spayed or neutered, the licence fee is $78 when paid before the annual renewal date ($92 after January 31st)
  • for dogs that are spayed or neutered, the licence fee is $35 when paid before the renewal date ($49 after January 31st)
  • if you're new to town and have a dog licence for the current year from any other British Columbia municipality, send documentation to [email protected] and get a West Vancouver licence for $10.
