Love West Van

The West Vancouver Community Cleanup is a litter clean-up initiative that encourages residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to get involved, get outside, and help clean up West Vancouver. 

The Fall 2024 event will be a group cleanup at John Lawson Park on Saturday, September 21 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. 

Can’t make the group cleanup? 
Register to cleanup your own neighbourhood anytime from September 20 to September 27. All West Vancouver residents are invited to get involved and help make West Van sparkle!

To get involved:

1. Register your team online. Look for an important email from our staff with next steps.
2. Teams of 10 or less can pick up a Cleanup Kit containing gloves, garbage bags, and a complimentary extra garbage tag if you live in a single-family dwelling. However, we encourage the use of gardening gloves and buckets to reduce waste. Pick-up time and location will be determined based on registration. The first 50 teams to register will receive a Love West Van tote bag!
3. Either join the District for a group cleanup at John Lawson Park on September 21 OR collect litter from your neighbourhood, street, school, or local park anytime between September 20 to September 27.
4. Share your photos with #LoveWestVan
5. Let us know the total weight of litter collected and receive an official certificate of participation!
6. If you are part of a household team use your complimentary extra garbage tag to set out the bag of litter you collected with your regular curbside collection. Report unsafe or large items for staff to collect.

West Van Parks Needs Your Help

Want to help our environment while getting outside and meeting great people? Become a West Van Park Steward by joining other passionate volunteers to remove invasive species, enhance habitat and restore natural areas. You can find out about upcoming park stewardship events and many other exciting volunteer opportunities in West Vancouver.

As a volunteer, you will:

• love your local parks and want to protect habitats and biodiversity for future generations to enjoy
• are comfortable working outdoors, off the trail and on uneven ground in all kinds of weather
• can be on your feet for a long period of time and are able to take part in gentle to moderate physical work
• are 14 years of age or older

Shoreline cleanups take place any time of year—anywhere that land connects with water, including creeks, streams, rivers, oceans and even storm drains. Every cleanup makes a positive impact on our shorelines, whether you have a team of a few people or a few hundred.

Everything you need to know about joining or leading your own cleanup is available through Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup. We will provide gloves, bags and litter collection tools for your event.

Fall 2022

The fall 2022 event was a success!

Total participants: 95
Total litter collected: approximately 35 kilograms (over 75 pounds)

Spring 2022

The spring 2022 event was a success! 503 people participated across the District, and collected a total of approximately 100 kg (over 250 lbs) of litter.

Fall 2021

The fall 2021 event was a success! 431 people participated across the District, and collected a total of approximately 30 kg (over 66 lbs) of litter.

Spring 2021

The spring 2021 event was a huge success! 2,768 people participated across the District, and collected a total of approximately 415 kg (915 lbs) of litter.

Fall 2019

In September 2019, we collected 70 kg of litter from the beaches, parks, and neighbourhood in Horseshoe Bay.

Spring 2019

In May 2019, we collected a truckload of litter weighing over 100 kg from the beaches and neighbourhood in Ambleside.
