Dog Licences

Dogs are now allowed in more park areas

At the November 27, 2023 Council meeting, Council voted to amend the Animal Control Bylaw.

Dogs are now permitted in more park areas in West Vancouver, including on the paved footpaths and paved areas in Horseshoe Bay Park, Ambleside Park, and along the Centennial Seawalk, between 18th Street and 25th Street.

Visit Dogs in Parks for more information.

The deadline to renew your dog’s licence is January 31.
Renew before January 31 to receive a discount.

If your dog is older than six months, it needs a licence and must wear a tag. Licence fees collected enable Bylaw & Licensing Services to bring your pet back to you quickly, often within a 24-hour period. As a part of the Drive Home Program, any licensed dog found by a bylaw officer will be taken to the owner’s front door. Licence fees also allow Bylaw & Licensing Services to provide emergency medical care for injured cats and dogs that are found.

  • you have moved during the last year
  • your dog is no longer with you
  • your dog has been spayed or neutered during the last year (a copy of the certificate by a qualified veterinarian must be supplied)

Permanent dog tags

Starting in 2024, we will be issuing permanent dog tags. Permanent tags will still require annual renewal but they have benefits:

  • Your dog tag number will remain the same, so our database will always be up-to-date with current information available if your dog is lost.
  • These stainless steel tags have a life span of up to 10 years, so they create less waste than replacing tags every year.

2024 fees

  • for dogs who are not spayed or neutered, the licence fee is $76 and when paid before the annual renewal date ($90 after January 31st)
  • for dogs that are spayed or neutered, the licence fee is $34 and when paid before the renewal date ($48 after January 31st)
  • if you're new to town and have a current dog licence from any other British Columbia municipality, send documentation to [email protected] and get a West Vancouver licence for $10.
