Eagle Creek Bridge

Parks & Recreation - Past Projects

Update - February 13, 2024

The Eagle Creek bridge is now open to the public. Thank you for your patience during the time it took to replace the bridge.

Background

On June 15, 2023, the Parks Department was informed that the 36-foot-long wooden bridge spanning Eagle Creek, linking Keith Road to Eagle Harbour Road, was damaged. Staff attended and closed the bridge immediately.

The bridge spanning Eagle Creek experienced a catastrophic failure when it was observed that one of the two main support girders had split along its length. It was closed immediately for public safety. An engineering firm contracted by the District conducted an assessment and determined that the bridge was not safe for the public to use, could not be repaired, and must be replaced.

The bridge was built approximately 15 to 20 years ago and it is not known whether it was designed by an engineer. The bridge failure was unexpected, and as such, the District had not planned the funding or resources for its replacement.

The District is aware that the community heavily relies on this bridge, and the residents are eager to witness its speedy replacement.
