PROJECTS HAPPENING IN Ambleside

14th Street and Marine Drive - Corner bump-outs

  • Timing: The bump-out work is scheduled to be completed by early December.
  • Project description: Improvements to the commercial area of Ambleside are underway as part of the Ambleside Town Centre Streetscape Standards project. The District has a cohesive and unified framework for ongoing and long-term development of public areas within Ambleside Town Centre, including improved sidewalks, crosswalks, trees and vegetation, lighting, and public art opportunities.
  • Construction impacts: Expect intermittent westbound curb lane delays along Marine Drive at 14th Street and occasional closures of 14th Street between Marine Drive and Clyde Avenue until the project is completed.

14th Street and Marine Drive Traffic Signal Replacement

The District will undertake the replacement of the traffic signal poles on the north side of the intersection of 14th Street and Marine Drive. Additional work will be done to realign curbs and replace pedestrian letdowns. See details below. 

  • Timing: Expect delays along Marine Drive at 14th Street on weekdays from Thursday, November 12 to Friday, November 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the following taffic impacts:
    • Intermittent westbound curb lane closures on Marine Drive
    • Intermittent closures of 14th Street between Marine Drive and Clyde Avenue
  • Project description: The north-east and north-west corners of the intersection of Marine Drive and 14th Street will be upgraded. Work consists of the installation of two new traffic signal poles, and the installation of modern pedestrian letdowns and sidewalks built to the Ambleside Streetscape Standard. The roadway will be slightly narrowed on 14th Street to improve pedestrian safety while crossing the roadway.
  • Construction impacts: All businesses will be open and have their access maintained to pedestrian traffic. All work will take place during the daytime to avoid noise impacts on local residents.

Grosvenor Development - Phase 2 construction

  • Timing: late August to late October.  
  • Project description: The Grosvenor development is a mixed residential and commercial project on the 1300 block Bellevue Avenue, and is nearing the completion of Phase 2 construction.
  • Construction impacts:
    • The remaining work on 14th Street and along Marine Drive is anticipated to begin in mid-September, assuming all other construction timelines remain on schedule.
    • The remaining work includes installing the pavers on 14th Street. Pavers are paving stones or brick-like pieces of concrete commonly used outside. The sidewalk outside of Earls and Heirloom has pavers.  Installation of the pavers will take approximately six to eight weeks, and 14th Street north of Bellevue Avenue and south of Marine Drive will be closed when this work is carried out.
    • The other remaining piece of work on 14th Street is paving the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and 14th Street.
