Altamont Park Upgrade

Altamont Park is a 0.56 hectare neighbourhood park on the corner of Gisby Street and Rosebery Avenue. The park has a tennis court, a sports court and a play area. These features were upgraded in 2015 with generous donations from area residents.

We thank the Altamont neighbourhood for their overwhelming support and look forward to seeing years of enjoyment at Altamont Park.

Public Input

Thank you to those who contributed their ideas for the renovation of Altamont Park. A final draft concept has been designed based on the community input received to date. Please provide your comments on the revised plan by August 18.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

Design Principles

Based on the community’s feedback, this neighbourhood park design will appeal to all ages and will include the following features:

  • Safe children’s play areas that do not replicate local schools with a toddlers play area and natural play
  • Climbing opportunities for older kids
  • A fenced sports court for hockey basketball and other hard court uses
  •  Attractive casual settings for sitting and gathering
  • One fenced tennis court with a north-south orientation
  • Managed vegetation with no invasive plants, more biodiversity and access paths.
Tree Management

Once invasive plants and selected trees are removed, existing vegetation will be augmented with additional native trees and large shrubs selected to enhance biodiversity and provide wildlife habitat. Vegetation buffers along park edges will continue to provide screening for adjacent neighbours.

New trees and shrubs will include:

  • Douglas Fir
  • Cedar
  • Vine Maple
  • Amur Maple
  • Mountain Ash
  • Flowering Currant
  • Saskatoon Berry
  • Sword Fern
