Seismic Upgrades Begin at Municipal Hall

Aug 22, 2019

This week, the District is beginning work on seismic upgrades to Municipal Hall. Visitors to Municipal Hall will notice construction fencing in the North parking lot and relocated visitors’ parking as a result.

While almost all of the construction will be happening within the building, there will be construction bins and construction machinery working in the parking lot area. Traffic should not increase substantially because the number of trades involved is limited.

Some staff have been relocated to accommodate the works, and visitors to Municipal Hall will notice that there is no longer public access to the second and third floors.

If you come to Municipal Hall, for any enquiry, please visit the Information Desk in the new wing and staff will assist you on the main floor.

During the next two months, work will also start at Fire Hall No.1 to seismically upgrade the apparatus bay. These two projects will bring the 50+ year old Municipal Hall and Fire Hall No. 1 to current BC Building Code standards. The District and Fire & Rescue Services have a responsibility to provide services to the community after an earthquake and this will significantly enhance our ability to do so, while also reducing the likelihood of damage being caused to the new adjacent Police Services and Municipal Hall building.
