Power outages and flooding due to heavy rain and strong winds; Seawalk now open

Jan 14, 2021

Update: 9 a.m.

Recent heavy rain and strong winds led to flooding, power outages, and high rivers and streams on Wednesday, January 13.

The Seawalk is now open.

15th Street is now open following the closure due to a fallen tree. The traffic signal at the intersection at 15th Street and Fulton Avenue has been repaired and is operational.

If you lose power, check the BC Hydro website for a list of reported power outages. To report an outage, contact BC Hydro at 1-888-769-3766. If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres (about the length of a bus) and call 9-1-1.

Crews will be clearing catch basins and monitoring creek flows. Residents can help prevent flooding by clearing catch basins of leaves and debris.

Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads. Please slow down and drive carefully. Stay clear of rivers due to quickly flowing water and potentially unstable riverbanks.

Residents can call our dispatch line 24/7 at 604-925-7100 to report flooding and fallen trees on roads and sidewalks, and for emergency service to roads, parks, water, and sewer.
