Play on
The final phase of the Ambleside Playground renovation is underway. Staff are working with the playground manufacturer’s contractors to complete the project as quickly as possible, and they hope to open the playground in phases over the next several weeks. Playground users will see more sand- and water-based play equipment. Phases 1 & 2 of the Ambleside Playground project are open to the public.

Ambleside’s next
The next step in the Official Community Plan review is preparation of the Ambleside Local Area Plan. The engagement team for this step consists of representatives from the Ambleside Dundarave Ratepayers Association, Ambleside and Dundarave Business Improvement Association, West Vancouver Memorial Library Board, Seniors’ Activity Centre and West Vancouver Community Centres Society. The team held its first meeting in late June and generated a range of excellent ideas for a broad, innovative and inclusive engagement process. The first phase of public engagement begins this fall. Staff will continue to work with the Ambleside engagement team throughout the process.

Tree meetings
Interim Tree Bylaw Working Group (ITBWG) meetings continue on an accelerated bi-weekly schedule. The ITBWG is focussing on quantifying the problem and drafting a problem statement and a vision statement for the issue. The ITBWG has also created subgroups to focus on items including bylaws, education and a public engagement plan.

Revitalizing HSBP
As part of the Horseshoe Bay Park Revitalization Project, the Parks Department is recruiting community members for an advisory group to assist staff and the consultant with the project. The application process was advertised in the North Shore News, this website, via social media and with signs in the park. The deadline to submit applications was June 16. Staff are now evaluating applications.

Youth work, adventure
Eight youth have been accepted into the Summer Work Experience and Adventure Program, have participated in their basic orientation to the program and received their placements.

More youth lounge time
Staff are providing coverage for opening the youth lounge at the West Vancouver Community Centre on weekends for pre-teens. The new schedule began last week, allowing pre-teens to have access to the youth lounge on Saturdays between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Ride and slide open
The Ride and Slide Playzone on the dry floor in the West Vancouver Ice Arena began on Tuesday, July 4. Six gigantic inflatables are available for children ages two to 12 to slide, jump, bounce and ride. The space is open for public drop-in, birthday parties and summer camps.
