New streetside recycling

Apr 2, 2019

This spring, new recycling bins are being incorporated into the Ambleside and Dundarave business areas and at Park Royal bus stops. These three-stream recycling bins are replacing existing garbage bins and have options to recycle paper and containers, as well as a place for garbage.

Around 40 per cent of material thrown out in the old garbage bins could have been recycled, but we are working to divert more of this waste from the landfill. The new recycling bins will make it easier to recycle in public spaces.

Bins don’t recycle. People do!

We need your help! People often find it easier to recycle at home than in public spaces. At home, West Van residents divert more than 75 per cent of waste from the landfill using the curbside recycling program. To make it as easy as possible to recycle correctly in public places, the new colour-coded streetside bins will match West Vancouver’s residential recycling program.

  • mixed paper goes in the yellow section
  • containers go in the blue section
  • garbage goes in the black section

Help us make this program a success by sorting waste properly in public spaces. While you’re at it, keep up the good work and continue recycling and using your green can at home!
