Highlights of what happened at the January 26 Council Meeting:

Proposed Resolution for 2015 UBCM Convention regarding Warning Labels on Gas Pumps: The following motion was passed:
THAT Council support the following resolution be advanced for consideration at the September 21/25, 2015 Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) conference and the June 5/8, 2015 Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) convention:
WHEREAS there is evidence that combustion of petroleum products such as gas and diesel in vehicle engines contributes to greenhouse gas emissions that affect natural systems in ways that are injurious to human health and the environment, and
WHEREAS point-of-sale warning labels have been required for other consumables, such as tobacco products, which has effectively curbed use of harmful products,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that all vendors of retail petroleum products in Canada be legislated to provide warning labels on all pump handles (pump talkers) and/or pump panels, and that those companies who do not have this feature on their pump handle be obligated to fit them with the plastic sleeves which will allow warning labels to be displayed.
Environmental Assessment Office Advisory Working Group for Environmental Assessment of the Proposed Woodfibre Liquefied Natural Gas Project: Council appointed the following District representatives to the EAO advisory working group: Councillor Bill Soprovich, with Councillor Nora Gambioli as his alternate, and Sandra Bicego, Manager, Environment and Sustainability with Brent Leigh, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer as her alternate.
2015 Budget Presentation: Presentation was received for information; Council informed that a discussion will be held at the next meeting on February 2, 2015.
Design Review Committee Proposed New Terms of Reference: Proposed new terms of reference were approved.
Proposed Zoning Bylaw 4662, 2010, Amendment Bylaw 4809, 2014 and Proposed Phased Development Agreement Authorization Bylaw 4821, 2014 (regarding proposed subdivision of 6447 and 6475 Pitt Street into three smaller lots): The public hearing was held and closed on January 26, 2015. Council considered the proposed bylaws, and both bylaws received second and third readings.
