The North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant is a new tertiary treatment facility being built to serve residents and businesses in the Districts of North and West Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). It will replace the existing primary treatment level Lions Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant on the North Shore.

Impact on your utility bill
All Metro Vancouver communities contribute to the costs of upgrading regional wastewater treatment facilities. The Regional Sewage Treatment Levy from Metro Vancouver is included as a proportion of the District’s Sewer and Drainage Utility fees.
In anticipation of costs associated with delivery of the new North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant, the District has incrementally increased Sewer and Drainage Utility fees as a temporary measure to help smooth future utility rate increases associated with the regional levy as costs to construct the Treatment Plant are realized.
The costs associated with the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant are captured based on the best available information at the time of rate setting. District staff cannot speculate on the ultimate project costs and their potential impact on future rates.
Future projections associated with the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant are subject to change once the final construction costs are realized and may also be influenced by fluctuations in the cost of sewage treatment operations by Metro Vancouver.
