Traffic and Transportation

Updated September 2018

The North Shore is prone to transportation challenges because of its constrained road network, the prevalence of single-family residential neighbourhoods that require reliance on cars, the lack of affordable housing to support a local workforce and families with school children, and capacity limitations imposed by two bridges that provide access to the rest of the region. It’s a complex issue that requires a suite of actions in order to effect change

Council and staff are working with other bodies of government and agencies to develop collaborative solutions. Improvements in public transportation, land use policies and integrated transportation planning are all important factors.

Making significant progress on this priority requires long-term commitments. Council has made progress, but this work must continue in the coming years.
