Recycle more in Horseshoe Bay
Introducing new ways to recycle more in Horseshoe Bay!
Horseshoe Bay village has been chosen as the test site for new streetside recycling bins, and we need your help. The new colour-coded bins match West Vancouver’s residential recycling programs, making it easier to recycle in public spaces.
The bins were installed last month, and here's why we need West Van's help to make it successful:
- Research shows that people are more likely to put materials in the wrong bin in public places than they are at home.
- When there are too many non-recyclable items in a recycling bin, the whole bin is contaminated and must be disposed of as garbage.
- When contamination is high, even items that are correctly sorted can end up in the landfill anyway.
Before the bins were in place, 100 per cent of waste collected in streetside bins in Horseshoe Bay Village went into the garbage.
Let's see if we can help change that! Data from the one-year project will inform long-term plans for improving recycling in public spaces.
