Canada Day Celebration and Fireworks

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Dress up in our national colours and join us at John Lawson Park to celebrate our nation’s birthday.  Bring your own picnic basket, or enjoy salmon on a bun by the Coho Festival Society, gourmet sausages and hamburgers by the Blackforest Deli, or a whole fruit bar frozen treat by Maxfrut.

Family activities will include face painting, tattoos, and high-flying red and white kites by Windrush Kites.

In the evening, enjoy  your favourite songs performed by the West Vancouver Youth Band. Sing along to “O Canada” under a giant Canadian flag, followed by birthday cupcakes.

On the “All Canadian Stage,” celebrate with the Famous Player, an internationally acclaimed party band.  Their energy, vibrancy and stage presence makes people want to get up and dance!

Following the picnic, the Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show will host two simultaneous shows — one off the shores of West Vancouver and one in the waterway between Canada Place and North Vancouver. That means excellent sightlines from the North Shore and many areas of Vancouver. The 30-minute pyro-musical show starts at 10:30 pm and will be simulcast on 99.3 The FOX.

Traffic, Street Closures, and Parking for Fireworks

Parking and vehicle access close to the West Vancouver waterfront will be extremely limited. Please consider alternate modes of transportation such as public transit, or parking at Park Royal Shopping Centre and walking to the event area. Local traffic will be subject to road closures and parking restrictions between 8:00 pm and midnight, or until required. As shown on the map, there will be local access only south of Marine Drive between 15th and 17th, and between 24th and 25th Streets inclusive. Residents will be asked to show identification with their local address.

Additional restrictions include the following:

  • The Ambleside boat launch will be closed all day July 1st. Piers at Ambleside, John Lawson, and Dundarave Pier will be closed during the show.
  • The residential areas north of the Trans Canada Highway from 21st Street to Chairlift Road will be subject to road closures during fireworks events. Access will be limited to residents and invited guests only.
